CM Maryam Nawaz Expands Free Wi-Fi Initiative to Nankana Sahib

Free internet access rolls out to more cities, enhancing digital connectivity in Punjab.

Free WiFi in Pakistan

Bringing seamless internet connectivity to more corners of Punjab, the ‘CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi’ initiative has now arrived in Nankana Sahib, following its success in Lahore and Kasur.

This ambitious project, rooted in the vision of Punjab’s Chief Minister for enhanced public safety and digital accessibility, aims to bridge the digital divide by offering free internet access to citizens throughout the province.

Nankana Sahib now joins the growing list of connected cities, with the initial phase covering five major public spots: Masjid Chowk, Tehsil Morr Chowk, Kutchehry Rail Crossing, and the railway station. In its short span, the service has already catered to about 25,000 users, with a total data consumption reaching 250GB.

The expansion doesn’t stop there. Lahore is set to see an additional 250 locations equipped with free Wi-Fi, bolstering the connectivity in the bustling city. Meanwhile, Kasur boasts free Wi-Fi at ten key spots, including the District Headquarters Hospital, Women’s College, New Bus Terminal, railway station, Model Bazaar, DC Office Chowk, and National Bank Chowk. Plans are in place to extend this service to 20 more locations, following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The Chief Minister expressed her delight at the enthusiastic reception of the free Wi-Fi initiative in Lahore, which has already benefitted over five million users. She commented, “Very soon, people in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala will also be able to enjoy this facility. The Safe City Authority will be established in 18 cities of Punjab by the end of this year.”

She particularly highlighted the initiative’s importance for women and female students, underscoring its role in ensuring safety and accessibility, especially in emergencies.

On the positive side, this initiative significantly enhances digital inclusion and public safety across Punjab. It also provides invaluable support for students and professionals who rely on internet access for their daily activities. However, the challenge remains in ensuring consistent service quality and managing the increased load on the network.

Imagine a future where every public space in Punjab offers free, high-speed internet, transforming the region into a truly connected digital hub. This initiative is not just about providing Wi-Fi; it’s about creating a digitally inclusive society where opportunities are accessible to all, fostering growth, and innovation at every corner.
